Meet Rusty

Why I’m Running for Office

I have been involved in my community through various organizations and leadership positions throughout my adult life.  I believe that finding solutions and resolving differences requires consensus building combined with listening skills. I promise to bring my experience, my passion for Eastern North Carolina and my determination to create a bright future for our area to the North Carolina House of Representatives.

Holderness GrandchildrenAs a father, grandfather and business owner, I am concerned with the state of education, jobs, and healthcare in our great State. As a parent of 4 children who went through Edgecombe County Public Schools who now all hold degrees from North Carolina universities, I am deeply worried about the future of our public education system.

We lag behind the rest of the nation in job creation with Edgecombe County being particularly hard hit in the areas of unemployment and job losses. We must invest in innovative technology, green jobs, and clean energy to attract businesses as well as to develop our tourism and other service business opportunities throughout Edgecombe and Martin Counties.

Here are the basics of my background -
